INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CONSUMER RIGHTS PROTECTION

March 15 is an international day of consumer rights protection. To celebrate this day, six regulatory agencies jointly organized the International Week of Human Rights Protection in Georgia. The conference was opened by Mikheil Sarjveladze, chairman of the parliamentary committee of human rights and civic integration, Davit Onoprishvili, head of Insurance State Supervision Service of Georgia, Irakli Lekvinadze, chairman of the National Agency of Competition, Davit Narmania, chairman of GNERC, Achi Mestvirishvili, acting president of NBG and Zurab Chekurashvili, head of National Food Agency.

The representatives of consumer rights protection organizations, local and international counterpart agencies, diplomatic corps, business, non-governmental and academic sector participated in the conference. Among them, Teresa Moreira - Head of UNCTAD's Competition and Consumer Policy Division and Neringa Ulbaite - Consumer Rights Protection Expert. At the conference, a panel discussion was held concerning the  mechanisms of protection and enforcement of user rights.

On March 13-17, under the organization of the State Insurance Supervision Service, the National Competition Agency, GNERC, the Communications Commission, the National Bank and the National Food Agency, the first international consumer rights protection week is taking place in Georgia. Within the framework of the week, the regulatory agencies will discuss the reforms carried out in the area of consumer rights, the achieved progress, current challenges, enforcement mechanisms, effective consumer awareness campaigns and international experience.
